Fellowship Invitational Speech Meet.
Each year we host our Annual FCS Invitational Speech Meet
at Benton St. Baptist Church, 90 Benton St., Kitchener. The meet begins at 9:30 am and concludes at 2:00 pm.
If Home Schoolers would like to participate, they are encouraged to hold "mini-meets" in their various associations to enlist contestants.
A maximum of two students per grade in each of the categories for each School or Home-School
Association will be permitted. Therefore, there is a maximum of 4 participants for each grade.
For all grades there are two optional categories. These are as follows:
Grades 1 & 2 -- Original Speech (2-4 minutes in length) or Poetry Memorization (no less than 12 lines)
Grades 3 & 4 -- Original Speech (3-5 minutes in length) or Poetry Memorization (no less than 16 lines)
Grades 5 - 8 -- Original Speech (3-5 minutes in length) or Biblical Story-telling (5-7 minutes in length)
Fellowship of the Arts
Fellowship of the Arts is a visual arts festival offered every other year at FCS in the Spring. It is an
opportunity to showcase each child's creative talent. We would like to display works of art that represent
a student's best effort. We have all been created by God in His image and are therefore in some way
creative. As parents and teachers it is our job to help our children identify their creative strengths. Submissions
should fall under one of three categories: painting, drawing or sculpture (crafts and collections do not qualify).
Students may enter two submissions. However, no family projects will be allowed. The artwork should be
creative, original, mounted for display, and independently produced.
Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31
Academic Testing
Have you ever wondered how your child is doing when compared with national academic standards? Would
it be helpful to know the academic levels of your child in specific subject areas to choose curriculum?
Academic testing is available for grades 3-8 by appointment during the last week in August each year (or other times if required).
The cost of this testing is $85.
Academic Courses at Fellowship
The curriculum of F.C.S. has been carefully chosen to provide academic excellence as well as the integration of
Biblical principles. After the examination of a variety of available sources, textbooks and curriculum are
selected by the teaching staff and administration in consultation with the school's Education Committee (composed
mainly of parents). Publishers tend to have strengths in different areas, therefore the curriculum of F.C.S. is
composed of selected materials from both Christian and secular publishers. An effort has been made to
maintain a Canadian content and perspective wherever possible. Curriculum revision is an on-going
process as we seek to provide the best instructional materials for our students.
Learning in the classroom is facilitated using a variety of teaching methods including direct instruction, co-operative
group activity, and hands-on investigation.
Specific courses are available to home-educated students in grades 3-8. These courses include: Math, Language Arts
(Spelling, Grammar, Creative Writing, Reading, Penmanship, Listening/Speaking), French, Physical Education & Health,
Bible, Science, Geography, Art, History and Music.
Students may enroll in specific courses on a part time basis. Those enrolled in Physical Education may also try-out for, and
participate in, school sports meets including volleyball, basketball, floor hockey, soccer and track & field.
Course fees are $600 per course, payable in ten monthly installments throughout the academic year ($60/month), plus a $200 registration fee.
Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life. Proverbs 4:13
French for Home-Schoolers
French classes are being made available exclusively to home-schoolers on Tuesday afternoons for 10 week seesions
throughout the acedemic year. Cost per student is approximately $8.50 per class. Contact the school office for further details and registration.
Space is limited to 20 students for each split grade class.
National Institute for Learning Disabilities (NILD)
"Discovery" is a unique program designed for students with diagnosed learning disabilities. Students work one on one with a qualified
NILD educational therapist to overcome cognitive and perceptual weaknesses in order to become an independent learner.
Contact the school office for answers to specific questions about this exceptional program.
