Priority is therefore given to families who are eligible for membership
in the school association (born-again believers who are members
in good standing of an evangelical church).
Since education is a God-given responsibility of parents, FCS
is a school in which a high degree of parental participation is
both welcomed and encouraged via board and committee involvement,
working as in-school volunteers, and participation in school functions
and fundraisers.
Families
seeking admission for their children at Fellowship Christian School
will be required to sign the Parents Pledge, upon registration
and every year thereafter. The Parents Pledge signifies that the
parents are in complete agreement with, and will uphold the school's
Statement of Faith, the Statement of Mission and Purpose, and
the Discipline Policy. Students likewise voluntarily sign the
Students Code of Conduct and must be willing to comply with all school
policies.
Fellowship
Christian School seeks to minister to the whole family; therefore
it is generally understood that all eligible children in a family
will be enrolled. Some exceptions are made, especially in cases
where a student has special needs that cannot be met by the school.
Student
enrolment is subject to space and program limitations. If the
school needs to limit its enrolment, it will give preference to
children whose siblings are already enrolled in the school. After
current school families have had an opportunity to re-register
for the following year (re-registration occurs during January
and February), new registrations will be considered on a first
come basis.
No
child shall, on the ground of race, colour or national origin,
be excluded from admission to FCS.
Junior Kindergarten children must be four (4) years of age as
of December 31 in the year of enrolment. Senior Kindergarten children
must be five (5) years of age as of December 31 of the year of
enrolment. Proof of age must be submitted.
Students
seeking admission to grades one (1) through eight (8) will undergo
an academic assessment. Testing is currently completed using the
Mini Battery of Achievement (MBA) program. This 30-minute assessment
tests a student's writing, reading, math and general knowledge.
Pupils seeking admission from other schools will also be required
to provide a copy of the most recent report card.
Grade
placement will be determined based upon admissions assessment
and achievement records from a previous school. Additional assessment
may be necessary before a final admission decision is made. In
the case of a student with a learning disability, physical handicap
or emotional/social difficulties, additional support structures
may be required. Students are admitted on the understanding that
their needs can be met primarily within a regular classroom setting.
The Registration Process
The
following are required:
1. Registration Form
2. Health Form
3. Parent & Student Pledge Forms
4. Membership Forms (one per parent)
5. Proof of Age (students new to the school system only)
6. Recent School Achievement Record (if applicable)
7. Registration Fee
Step
One
Upon receipt of the above information an appointment will be set
up for an academic assessment, if applicable, and an interview
time arranged with the school administrator. Families may also
tour the facilities and arrange a classroom visit if they desire
to do so at this time.
Step
Two (if necessary)
After the initial interview and assessment is complete, FCS may
require that additional information or testing be completed.
Step
Three
Upon completion of the above, the family will be contacted by
the school administrator regarding the enrolment decision.
Step
Four
The family will be contacted to arrange for a visit with the school
Membership Committee who will explain the organizational structure
of the school, the privileges and responsibilities of membership
in the school association and answer additional questions. Admission
of the student into the school does not guarantee membership in
the school association.
